after a roof collapsed at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport early Sunday,  May 23,  police officials said. Police suggested that the number of casualties could rise as they were still trying to reach people trapped in the rubble.

The accident reportedly occurred at Terminal 2E of just north of the French capital,  which was opened 11 months ago.

"Several tonnes of concrete and glass have collapsed," Laurent Vibert, a spokesman for the fire service told LCI television,  according to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

Investigators say the reason for the collapse in terminal 2E, was not immediately clear.
The accident took place at 0700 (0500 GMT),  the BBC said.

Several news reports qouted officials as saying that the area has been evacuated.
