TRIPOLI, LIBYA (BosNewsLife)– Amid international pressure, Libya has released four Christians who were detained for converting from Islam, after nearly three months of imprisonment, BosNewsLife learned Tuesday, April 21 from a key advocacy group involved in the case.
“We would like to let you know that God has answered your prayers for the four believers who had been detained in Libya,” said Jeff King, the president of U.S.-based International Christian Concern in an e-mailed statement to supporters, obtained by BosNewsLife. “The four Christians were freed on April 13,” King added.
The four Christians, whose names were not released due to security concerns, were detained in January by the country’s feared intelligence service as part of an apparent crackdown on Christian converts.
ICC told BosNewsLife at the time that it was concerned that the Christians were “detained and tortured” by Libya’s feared intelligence service. Their health situation was not immediately clear Tuesday, April 21.
King said his organization has asked its supporters to “please continue praying for their safety and strength.” Libya’s External Security Organization is believed to be behind the detention and torture of Christians ICC said earlier, citing local sources.
“Fearing for their lives, converts from Islam are on the run,” the group added. Libya´s ruler, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, has been under to allow more religious and political freedom in his country.
haha Libya did not release them because of their prayers, Libya released them because of international pressure and nothing in Islam really says you have to capture them, people these days don’t know what they want to begin with their mentality isn’t stable they are caught in a materialistic world mixed with temptation and forgotten indentities which if you gave a meaning to insanity it will be obvious to you nevertheless they will convert back to Islam and than to Buddism than Hinduism etc … Their looking for security but can’t find it so hopefully they will find it in Christianity you know they won’t be praying for Jesus(as) as he just a man, they will be praying for the next gorgeous women like the quran said zinat el hayat el dunia, the ornaments of the life of this world. Look at it this way what do you gotta lose in Islam theres a heaven and hell so chance are you will go to either one of them no matter what religion you are and well if your not a muslim and were or knew about Islam but stayed arrogant/ignorant than obviously hell is your next neighbour, so 50/50 chance same as probability you know and Jesus(as) is just an ordinary man like you and me so he not gonna save you, the only paradise you have is this life like Islam has said so think about it and be steadfast you don’t pass a test when you cheat maybe in this life but surely not the next
Dear Ahmed,
I respectfully disagree with you. The Bible’s John 3:16 clearly says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” It does not says “maybe” or “only when you don’t cheat”. The fact is that Jesus Christ died and rose up from the death for all sinners. No matter how far we have been off the mark, anybody who calls upon His name is saved. As a matter of fact we already can experience New Life with Him, even on this earth, before receiving a new heavenly body, without pain and shortcomings. I am sure international pressure helped, but Christians would argue that it’s difficult not to see that the many prayers also played a major role in this. God often uses people to carry out His plan, the Bible says.
