birth of the second daughter of Ambassador George Habsburg and Archduchess Elika.

She is the 21st grandchild of Dr. Otto van Habsburg, the Chief of the House Habsburg and a well known European Parliament member, and his wife Archduchess Regina.

Archduchess Ildiko was born in the clinic of Telki, a village near Budapest, on Thursday June 6 at 1.38 PM local time, the House Habsburg said in a statement obtained by BosNewsLife.

"The child is 56 centimetres and weighs 3,400 grams. Mother and daughter are both healthy and in good condition," the statement quoted medical officials as saying.

On January 16, 2001, Archduchess Zsofia, the first daughter of George and Elika Habsburg, was also born in Hungary.

The couple, which has a Catholic and Protestant background, married in Hungary in 1998, amidst world-wide attention from media and royal families.

Although the Habsburgs no longer enjoy the power they had for centuries, the family keeps some traditions and are often asked to advise post-Communist Hungary, where especially elderly people show nostalgia towards their country’s past.

Under Communism, the Habsburgs were banned from entering Hungary. Their royal style wedding, that included a Catholic church service and the more recent baptism of their first child, would have been unthinkable under Soviet domination.
