"blatantly mocking Christianity."  The president of Life Decisions International (LDI), Douglas R. Scott Jr., said the rival NBC and CBS networks aired programs he described as "denigrating" towards Jesus Christ and those believing in Him.

Scott said his group was particularly concerned about an episode of the "Late Night With Conan O’Brien," show recorded January 10, featuring a character called "the homophobic country western singer."

Television footage reportedly showed a middle-aged man wearing country western clothing playing guitar and singing: "Oh I love you Jesus, But only as a friend. You touched my heart but I hope, That’s where the touchin’ ends. You’re always lookin’ over me, When I need a higher power. But you better look at somethin’ else, When I’m in the shower."

"APPALLING" IDEA

Scott said the, "idea that anyone would think about the Son of God in this way is simply appalling." He added he wonders if host’s "O’Brien’s description of the character as a ‘complete idiot’ is based on the man’s ‘homophobic’ beliefs or if it is because of the inference that Jesus could be sexually interested in seeing the man naked."

Scott said he has written a letter to NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly and other officials, objecting to the airing of this material. "I notice the song was not about a Rabbi…Buddha [or] Muhammad. If it had been about any of these, the network would surely have disallowed the airing of such  garbage," Scott wrote, adding that "since the song was about Jesus Christ, nothing was done."

He said it appears that it is "not proper to denigrate the beliefs systems of anyone–except those who believe Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God." Scott urged Christians "to speak out and stop being timid when such things occur. It is time that all people of good will, whether Christian or not, stand up against such bigotry."

Scott said, "Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and other groups do not tolerate such prejudice. Christians should not have to do so, either." Not everyone agrees with this thinking. Some evangelicals have suggested that Jesus Christ will deal with the world at "His own time" when He returns and that Christians should spread the Gospel rather than running after evil. NBC and CBS have not yet commented. Yet, O’Brien appeared to distance himself from the character singing about Jesus, according to the transcripts. (With reports from the United States).
