NEW YORK, USA (BosNewsLife)– Rush Limbaugh, America’s most listened to conservative radio talk show host, was “resting comfortably” Thursday, December 31, after being rushed to a Honolulu hospital with chest pains, his Web site said.

New York-based news radio station 77 WABC, one of the many networks that carry the controversial Rush Limbaugh show, told BosNewsLife earlier that Limbaugh is “listed as in serious condition.”

“It is believed that the radio host has suffered a heart attack,” 77 WABC said in a statement.

His program did not provide many details. “Rush was admitted to a Honolulu hospital today and is resting comfortably after suffering chest pains,” said the Rushlimbaugh.com site. “Rush appreciates your prayers and well wishes. He will keep you updated via RushLimbaugh.com and on Thursday’s radio program.”

His closest friends and associates were reportedly at his bedside.

Rush, 58, was taken to Queens Medical Center from the Kahala Hotel after complaining of chest pains, several media said. The hotel apparently took great pains to keep the matter quiet, taking him out of the venue via a back exit of the resort.

HEALTH PROBLEMS HISTORY

Rush Limbaugh has had a history of health problems from addiction to pain killers to hearing and weight problems.

Media in Honolulu said Limbaugh was taking medicine for back pain and that he was sitting in a chair in the ninth-floor hotel room when a Kahala Hotel emergency team was called in to help him.

Limbaugh was seen golfing at the Waialae Country Club next to his hotel earlier in the week.

He has been a controversial figure, praised by many conservative Christians and other Americans but often criticized by non-conservative Christians and even the White House for his tough formulated positions on issues ranging from immigration to health care.

HEALTH CARE CONTROVERSY

Limbaugh, who claims to have up to 20 million listeners, has become one of the most vocal voices against President Barack Obama’s health care plan to provide near universal health care coverage for al Americans for the first time in the nation’s history.

“This health care bill will destroy the country as you and I know it.  It will destroy the greatest health care system in the world,” Limbaugh recently said. “This will forever change the relationship that you and I have with our doctors because the government’s going to be a very powerful middleman.”

He also said, “It’s very simple, folks. When Barack Obama and the Democrats win, America loses. Big time,” according to his own Web site. Others strongly disagree and his program often leads to harsh debates on the airwaves and beyond.

Radio advertisers apparently love the controversy.  Last year Limbaugh extended his contract through 2016 with $38 million per year and a “nine-figure signing bonus.” The total package is valued at roughly $400 million.
